Rainbow

#WedWIPAesthetic 19.06.19 – RAINBOW

This is a new YA fantasy WIP I’m working on, because I needed to take a break from my current novel. Nova’s story is still very important to me, but I haven’t been able to write anything substantive for the entire month of June so far, so it’s taking a back seat to SHINY NEW IDEA.

TOUCH OF FIRE

Kenna is your average teenager — a little too reckless, a little too plucky, a little too irresponsible. A year after the untimely and tragic death of her fiancé in a fire, her parents are urging her to move on with her life and grow up a little. So when the Protectors enlist her to guard a holy object with her life, Kenna’s parents give her a little nudge out the door, into a world that does not share the same beliefs she does. In fact, she doesn’t have any beliefs at all. She doesn’t believe in the gods who blessed or cursed this holy object; she just knows that she has to protect it, and she is required to die for it should the situation call for such extremes. Forced on a journey across the world, protecting an object that kills anyone who touches it, Kenna learns the meaning of responsibility and love, and how hers isn’t the only life at stake. And when people begin fighting for possession of this powerful relic, Kenna will do anything to save the people protecting it — even if it means losing the thing she’s supposed to be guarding.

Fun obscure fact: The name Kenna is the feminine version of Kenneth, which comes from the Scottish Cináed, which means “born of fire.” Kenna’s fiancé died in a fire, and the holy object kills anyone who touches it by burning them from the inside out. Kenna also has a deep fear of fire.
